For those on the East Coast, it may be beyond
our budgets to give a gift of a California wine tour. However, that doesn't
mean we can't give a wine tour gift. Relatively new to wine making, New York is
actually home to a number of wineries that can be visited. What many people are
unaware of is that New York is actually the third largest producer of wine in
the United States.
Most wineries in New York offer wine tastings
and tours. Often the local limo companies will have package rates for day tours
so that tourists can taste all the wines without fear of being unable to drive
afterwards. If you are giving a wine tour gift to someone in the north east
region of America, you will find day trips to be a very cost effective wine
gift.
The Finger Lakes region in western New York has
a wonderful climate for producing many grape varietals. The soil conditions are
excellent and the lakes all around provide just the right balance for excellent
wine production.
One outstanding wine gift choice for this area
would be tickets on the Finger Lakes Scenic Railway. This is a 118 mile section
of track which travels through the scenic wine country of the Finger Lakes
region. Public excursions are frequently organized and the train can even be
rented for private events if you want.
There are three main wine trails found in this
area but the largest is the Seneca Lake Wine Trail which begins in Geneva, NY.
The Seneca Lake Wine Trail starts at the northern most point of Seneca Lake and
ends in Watkins Glen. This trail features 31 vineyards that are found along the
lake shores, many of which offer public tours and wine tastings.
Many different wines are produced at the
wineries featured along the Seneca Lake trail so whoever you give this gift to
will get to sample and enjoy a wide variety of wines. They will also get to
relax and take in some stunning scenery that is found in this region. Views are
particularly spectacular in the fall when the foliage turns to golds and reds.
The Keuka Wine Trail of the Finger Lakes region
is a smaller trip, encompassing only 8 vineyards. However some of these are the
most reputable wineries in New York so you will sample some of the state's
finest wines. This trip starts with a horse drawn hayride through the first
vineyard. This would be an incredibly romantic gift for your favorite pair of
wine enthusiasts.
Another option is a popular winery tour package
that is offered by Finger Lakes Winery which is based in Geneva. They offer a
variety of transportation options for your tour including trolleys and
limousines. They will actually pick you up anywhere in New York to take you to
the tour so you are not obligated to stay in the Finger Lakes area.
No matter which option or combination of options
that you choose, a New York wine tour would be a fantastic wine gift. A trip
like this will create memories that will last a lifetime.
