Muttontown is a peaceful inhabited village located in the neighborhood of north shore of Long Island in Nassau County which is roughly about 31 miles of Manhattan east and 94 miles west of Montauk, Muttontown borders the villages of Oyster Bay Cove, Old Brookville, Brookville and the small towns of Syosset and Jericho.The village of Muttontown is known for its miles of horse trails and paths for walkers and cross-country.
Muttontown's name derives from early use of the land for sheep grazing. It is formerly a "great sheep district". In the 1600s the early English and Dutch settlers found the rolling hills ideal for the thousands of sheep that grazed here, providing mutton and wool. Muttontown is probably best known for its nature preserves, its handsome estates and of course, its pleasant residential character.
